Frequently Asked Questions
Is the E-Flite UMX Slow Ultra Stick RTF good for beginners?
Yes. It is rated Skill Level 2, Novice to Sportsman, and is built as a gentle, easy to learn slow flyer. AS3X stabilization smooths out the controls, while optional SAFE Select flight envelope protection adds a safety layer that helps keep the airplane within controlled limits, making it forgiving for new pilots.
What does it mean that this is a slow flyer?
A slow flyer is designed to cruise at gentle, low speeds rather than fast, aggressive flight. The UMX Slow Ultra Stick is an ultra micro slow flyer, so it moves slowly and reacts in a relaxed way. That gives you more time to think and react, which is exactly what makes it easier to learn on.
What is included in the box, and do I need to buy a separate transmitter?
No extra transmitter is needed with this Ready-to-Fly version. It arrives complete with the airframe, a Spektrum SLT6 2.4GHz transmitter, a factory installed Spektrum 2.4GHz DSMX and SLT receiver, servos, a speed control, a 1S 150mAh LiPo battery, and a charger. A RealFlight Trainer Edition simulator trial is also included.
Is this the RTF or BNF version, and do I need my own Spektrum radio?
This listing is the Ready-to-Fly version, so it includes the Spektrum SLT6 2.4GHz transmitter and you do not supply your own radio. E-Flite also offers a separate Bind-N-Fly version of the UMX Slow Ultra Stick that ships without a transmitter and requires a compatible Spektrum DSMX or SLT radio you already own.
Can I fly it right out of the box?
Yes. As a Ready-to-Fly package, this model arrives complete with what you need to power the Spektrum SLT6 transmitter, plus the aircraft battery and charger. You can charge the included 1S 150mAh LiPo pack and start flying without buying anything else first. Always read the instructions and check your setup before your first flight.
What do AS3X and SAFE Select technology do, and is SAFE Select switchable?
AS3X stabilization and optional SAFE Select work together to make the airplane easy to control. AS3X provides stabilization for a smoother, more locked in feel. SAFE Select is an optional, switchable flight envelope protection mode that helps keep the model within controlled limits. Together they make it easier to fly for pilots of any skill level.
What are the wingspan, length, and weight?
This ultra micro model has a wingspan of 19.74 inches (501 mm) and an overall length of 17.39 inches (442 mm). It weighs only 1.48 ounces (42 grams) without the battery and about 1.62 ounces (46 grams) with the recommended battery. That very light weight is part of what makes it gentle and forgiving to fly.
What battery does it use, and which batteries are compatible?
The Ready-to-Fly package includes a 1S 150mAh LiPo battery and a charger. E-Flite recommends a 1S 3.7V LiPo pack from 100 to 210mAh using the JST PH 1.25 ultra micro connector. Note that the included battery and charger are designed for this model and may not be compatible with other aircraft.
How long does it fly on a single charge?
Flight time depends on your throttle use and the battery you choose within the recommended 1S 100 to 210mAh range. With the included 1S 150mAh LiPo pack, this ultra micro slow flyer delivers several minutes of relaxed flying per charge. Keeping spare charged 1S packs on hand lets you fly more between charges.
Can it fly indoors and outdoors, and how much wind can it handle?
Yes. This ultra micro slow flyer is designed for indoor flying in spaces like garages or gyms and for outdoor flying in calm conditions. Because it is so light, it performs best in calm to very light wind. Gusty or breezy air will push it around, so still mornings or evenings give the most predictable flights.
Does it need FAA registration or fall under Remote ID rules?
The airframe weighs about 1.62 ounces (46 grams) ready to fly, far below the FAA 250 gram recreational threshold. So flying it recreationally is generally not subject to that registration requirement or to Remote ID rules. Regulations can change and may vary by location, so always confirm current federal and local rules before you fly.
How durable is it, and are replacement parts available?
It is built from lightweight EPS foam and uses a pop off prop saver, where the propeller detaches on impact rather than snapping, helping protect the model during learning crashes. Its low weight and slow speed reduce impact forces. E-Flite also supports it with replacement parts such as the wing, propeller, and tail through Horizon Hobby and its dealers.
