VFR Navigation Log

Plan your cross-country leg by leg. Enter your course, winds, and distances and the log fills in headings, ground speed, times, and fuel, with running totals. Print it for your kneeboard.

The PilotMall VFR Navigation Log is a free, interactive version of the classic paper nav log. It plans your flight one leg at a time: enter each checkpoint, your course, the winds aloft, and the distance, and it computes the heading to fly, your ground speed, the time en route, and the fuel burn for every leg, plus running totals, a Weather Log, and a flight plan page. Need true airspeed? Use the Flight Computer.

Frequently asked questions

What is a VFR navigation log?
A VFR nav log is a leg-by-leg flight plan. For each checkpoint you note the course, forecast wind, and distance, and the log gives you the heading to fly, your ground speed, the time for each leg, and the fuel you will burn, with running totals for the whole trip.
How does it calculate heading and ground speed?
It solves the wind triangle, the same method a manual or electronic E6B uses. From your true airspeed, the winds aloft, and your magnetic variation it computes the wind correction angle, true, magnetic, and compass heading, and ground speed for every leg.
Is it free?
Yes. It is completely free to use, with no account and no download, and runs in any web browser on a phone, tablet, or computer.
Can I print it?
Yes. Use the Print button for a clean nav log you can fold into your kneeboard. The printout includes the airport frequencies, a Weather Log, and a flight plan page as well.
Does it save my flight plan?
It auto-saves your plan in your browser and restores it when you come back. Use Print or PDF to keep a permanent copy.
Do I still need a paper nav log?
Many checkrides and cockpits still expect paper. Plan and print here, and carry a durable flight planning pad and a reliable pen as a backup.
