Born into first serving as a combat training unit to wail upon the enemy in aerial dogfights, the 322d Fighter Squadron flew early-model Republic P-47B Thunderbolts to protect the skies over New York during the opening phases of World War II. The training unit then changed its base of fighter training operations to New England. It was then reassigned and transferred to North Carolina, fulfilling its wartime duties as a Replacement Training Unit (RTU).

This piece of aviation history depicts a black caricatured cat, ready to pounce, licking its lips with a red tongue dripping with saliva, baring nasty claws, while perched comfortably from a position of obvious superiority, on top of a cloud formation, while casting an evil eye on a fearful, diminutive mouse, utterly scared for its life, who's poking its wee head out of a small hole.

The blue background and orange borderline are the proud colors of the United States Air Forces during WWII. The feline, with a hawk-eyed attitude, portrays the primary objective of the 322d Fighter Squadron, ready to rage, rampage, and engulf the adversary, chomping it to bits.
