This emblem was painted on the fuselages and wings of U.S. Army and Navy aircraft from 1919 until Americas entry into WWII in 1942. Featuring a large white star with a red dot on a disc of insignia blue, this roundel was changed to one without the red dot as the U.S. became embroiled in Second World War. The fear was that the red dot bore too much resemblance to the red Japanese Hinomaru roundel-the U.S. military was keen to avoid potential friendly fire casualties that could result from mistaken identity.

If reminiscing about classic airplanes is your thing, this t-shirt from the Aeroplane Apparel Company is the one for you. It bears the famous emblem that adorned some of the aircraft that were formational to the development of aviation in the United States such as the Curtiss B-2 Condor, The Consolidated PBY Catalina, and the Boeing P-12. This t-shirt makes an excellent conversation starter at the next airshow or hangar flying session you attend.
