The T-6 Texan was a single-engine advanced trainer aircraft used to train pilots of the United States Army Air Forces, United States Navy, Royal Air Force and other air forces of the British Commonwealth during World War II and into the 1950s. The T-6 is known by a variety of designations depending on the model and operating air force. This specific version is the SNJ-3 Texan, the model operated by US Navy. The design of the SNJ-3 was the same as the AT-6A, but with modifications for the Navy. The design for the SNJ-3 and AT-6A incorporated new outer wing panels with a swept forward trailing edge, squared-off wingtips and a triangular rudder. Despite improvements, both designs still kept the definitive Texan appearance.
