Description
The F4U Corsair is a carrier-based fighter aircraft manufactured by Chance Vought in 16 separate models. The F4U Corsair was in active service in early 1943 and the first combat engagement was on February 14, 1943. F4U Corsair served as fighter bombers in the Central Pacific and the Philippines. The F4U Corsair quickly became the most capable carrier-based fighter-bomber of World War II.
This specific F4U Corsair model is the F4U-5NL Nite Corsair variant. The new design increased the F4U-4 Corsair's overall performance and incorporated many Corsair pilots' suggestions. It was also a winterized version, the aircraft was fitted with rubber de-icing boots on the leading edge of the wings and tail.
