The F/A-18 was the follow-on replacement for the Navy A-4 Skyhawk. Strike Fighter Squadron 83 is also known as the “Rampagers.” Designed as a replacement for the A-4 and as a complement to the F-14 Tomcat. A version of this aircraft is also used by the US. Navy Blue Angles. First flown on November 18, 1978, this multi-role carrier-capable, aircraft functions in several roles including fighter escort, fleet air defense, and close air support. It saw action in Operation Desert Storm as both fighter and a bomber.
