The Liberator pilots of the 791st Bombardment Squadron

The sight of a box of Consolidated B-24 Liberator bombers over occupied Europe was sure the get the attention of German anti-aircraft gunners and fighter pilots. Some of these massive four-engine aircraft were flown by the courageous men of the 791st Bombardment Squadron. With the Liberators long range and colossal bomb carrying capability, the U.S. Army Air Corps Eighth Air Force found plenty of work for the 791st. The squadron hammered chemical plants in Bonn, the naval harbor in Kiel, steel and textile factories in Osnabrack and Stuttgart, and Luftwaffe aircraft factories in Brunswick. The 791st flew in support of the Battle of the Bulge and blazed a path for the Allied crossing of the Rhine in 1945.

The bravery of the 791st Bombardment Squadron deserves to be commemorated, and the Aeroplane Apparel Company is proud to feature their emblem on this fine t-shirt. The logo of the 791st features a pilot dressed in his leather flying suit standing atop the clouds, peering through a spyglass at the enemy targets below. On his head, the pilot wears a headset from which valuable electronic intelligence emanates to bomber command and the other aircraft in his formation. The pilot, like all of the men of the 791st, is a pathfinder. With a string in his left hand, he guides other B-24s to the target and back to the safety of home.
