First starting out as a B-24 Liberator reconnaissance unit to spy upon and observe the movement, positioning, and locations of enemy combat assets, the squadron was later direct to fly as a heavy bomber Operational Training Unit (OTU), then as the war progressed, the 420th Bombardment Squadron proudly served as a Replacement Training Unit (RTU).
Note the aggressive snarling spirit of the red demon with green face and gloves, almost like the mean, green, fighting machine felt amongst the onboard crewmembers. This devilish nightmare of a character is grasping a long-shafted, large black trident, gripped at the end, ready to be thrusted powerfully forward upon the foes of the United States.
Said Satan is astride a large black aerial bomb, accented with white speedy zippy lines dropping downward without mercy, upon the dreadful but ultimately hapless enemy. The entire ensemble is centered on a light blue disc, which represents the wild blue yonder, in which the B-24 Liberator freely flies and operates.
