The 383d Bombardment Squadron (later 529 fighter) was first born into the Pacific Theater of Operations as a B-17 Flying Fortress, and then later tasked as a B-24 Liberator operational training unit (OTU). This finest group of fighting flyers helped instruct other aviation personnel the tactical flying skills needed to defeat the adversary's forward onslaught. As the war progressed, the 383d transformed into a Replacement Training Unit (RTU).

The 383d squadron patch depicts a menacing, rampaging saber-toothed tiger, complete with blood-stained teeth and powerful jaws for swiftly chomping down on the enemy's hide. The claws, painted red also, denotes the dastardly destructive battle damages inflicted, worn as well-earned badges of honor. The downward attack from high-angle right shows the group's capabilities as a titan of heavy bombing runs.
