The F4U Corsair was in active service in early 1943 and the first combat engagement was on February 14, 1943. F4U Corsair served as fighter bombers in the Central Pacific and the Philippines. The F4U Corsair quickly became the most capable carrier-based fighter-bomber of World War II.
