Description

The Boeing 727 is a narrow-body airliner with three rear-mounted engines. It was manufactured from 1963 to 1984. It became the first commercial aircraft to sell more than 1000 airplanes. The single-aisle aircraft was intended for short and medium routes. The third engine made it possible for it to operate out of shorter runways at regional airports. One distinctive feature of the aircraft is the built-in stairs under the rear of the aircraft. Interesting fact: In 1971, D. B. Cooper hijacked a 727, collected $200,000 in ransom money, and then bailed out through the aft stairway, over the northwest United States. Neither Cooper nor any of the money was ever found.
