Description

The "Detroit Miss" P-51D Mustang belonged to World War II fighter ace Urban "Ben" Drew of - you guessed it - Detroit, Michigan. Drew is famous for shooting down two ME 262 jets in his Mustang on Oct. 7 1944. Unfortunately, Drew's gun camera quit working and his wingman was shot down. So, he had no evidence or witnesses to confirm his claim. Years later, though, Luftwaffe records were discovered that verified Drew's story, and in 1983 the government awarded him the Air Force Cross.
