Comments: Fantastic unit, simple to operate even if you do not like to read a manual. Aviation side is complete for all except weather. Auto could use more reference points ( mile markers) and show rest areas and other major interest areas along interstates. Great buy!

new vs old handheld garmin

Comments: So, I've had a 496 for a while and like it. I'm sure a lot of people are wondering if they should upgrade to the latest. Here is what I've experience so far. First, I was very familiar with the page system on the 496 and I knew exactly how many times to press the page button to get to the data I wanted. The menu system made a lot of sense to me. The new Aera is mostly better in that you always have to go back to the main menu. This means that any page is always just to 'presses' away. I actually like it better. Second- the screen updates much faster and seems clearer. Overall, its worth it. My only concern is how the touch screen will look after a few thousand touches.
