This collectable model Boeing P-12 represents one of the Boeing's early successes – a single-engine fighter from the golden age of flight. Painstakingly built from Philippine mahogany by our skilled craftsmen, this 1/20-scale model P-12 makes a great pilot gift or a present for any veteran, aviation enthusiast or history buff.
The Boeing P-12 was developed by Boeing as a replacement for two of its earlier designs, the F2B and F3B biplanes used by the United States Navy. Using a smaller, lighter airframe – but the same R-1430 Wasp engine – the result was a faster, more agile fighter.
P-12s were flown by the 17th Pursuit Group (34th, 73rd, and 95th Pursuit Squadrons) at March Field, California, and the 20th Pursuit Group (55th, 77th and 79th Pursuit Squadrons) at Barksdale Field, Louisiana. Older P-12s were used by groups overseas: the 4th Composite Group (3rd Pursuit Squadron) in the Philippines, the 16th Pursuit Group (24th, 29th , 74th, and 79th Pursuit Squadrons) in the Canal Zone, and the 18th Pursuit Group (6th and 19th Pursuit Squadrons) in Hawaii.
The P-12 had a top speed of 189 mph, with a range of 570 miles. First flight of the P-12 was on June 25, 1928, with service deliveries beginning in 1929. More than 580 P-12s were delivered, and the aircraft served in front-line service until 1934, when it was replaced by the Boeing P-26 Peashooter.
