AvMap GeoPilot II PLUS
High Performance at an Affordable Price The Geopilot II PLUS, the new portable aeronautical navigator developed by AvMap, is high performance but truly affordable. GeoPilot II PLUS is faster than ever thanks to the new 300 MHz processor, more compact and practical with the built-in battery and GPS receiver, and an extra serial port available for connection with PC and autopilot devices.

The display is sunlight-viewable and equipped with a sensor for automatic brightness control and an audio video input. The information is clearly visible and the map page is fully customizable.
Weather Conditions With an optional antenna you can receive constantly updated XM/WX weather conditions: NEXRAD (next generation radar), and Lightning information are displayed on the map. Enhanced Situational Awareness With the TAWS, GeoPilot II PLUS displays your position in relation to surrounding terrain. With the new Crossed Airspace Predictor function, you can get a preview of the airspaces that you will cross along your flight, while the Crossed Airspace Advisor provides warnings during the flight on airspaces being crossed.
Most Accurate Information The cartography preloaded on the SD memory card includes the Jeppesen® navigation database with terrain and vertical obstructions. Geo Pilot II Plus GPS
As a first time general aviation GPS user (retired airline/military), the quick start guide and the on line download manual are very difficult to understand. Making the programing of the Geo Pilot II plus difficult. There are no "step by step" instructions for the unit. With the supplied information, you are pretty much on your own to figure the unit out. www.AvMap.us and wwwAvmap.it, provide almost no useful information. There appears to be some translation lost in writing the supplied guide/manual as the unit is made in Italy. After many emails to avmap.us, I finally got a site to obtain a "user friendly" manual from www.Qref.com. This manual (not AvMap) says it will take you step by step through each of the units programs and explain in detail what each key does. Even show you "short cuts" and explain "tips" to make the unit easier to use. There are noAvMap interactive DVD's for the unit like Airmap and Garmin. If you understand computer programing/language/manuals, then you should not have a problem with this unit. The features of the unit are very nice (no accessories...as of yet). You can make your own DC power cord (hard wire), but finding the 0.7mm x 3.5mm x 9mm plug is difficult. A GPS/Autopilot serial cord is available for $30.00 + shipping, but you have to cut the din plug off of one end to hard wire or make your own for about $2.00. Bottom line...I was expecting a more user friendly unit, but as I like the features ( and the price), hopefully the Qref.com manual will smooth things out. The main reason for a GPS was to hook it up to my autopilot, a nice to have feature, but as we all know how to D.R. not a requirement.

Geo Pilot II+
This is a follow up review I did of the Geo Pilot II+ I purchased. As I mentioned in my previous write-up, the AvMap Quick Quide and the 100 page User Manual, you download from AvMap, are pretty much useless and I also mention the Qref AVMAP Geopilot II+ GPS quick reference for pilots. This book is the ticket to understanding the programing of the Geo Pilot II Plus. For $23.00 it is well worth the money and it is bullet proof. The small "flip chart" style book has laminated pages and will fit anywhere.
After much hair pulling trying to load a flight plan with the AvMap User manual with no success, the Qref book had me up and running in less than 5 min.!! Any dealer (including AvMap, Italy) should list this Qref book for new owners to buy. AvMap.us did finally give me the Qref.com site to order the book after I expressed my concerns over their owners manual. With this "new" information (Qref manual) the operation of the Geo Pilot II+ is starting to make more sense. I now give the unit 4 stars. 5 if it had available accessories.
