Description

The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk is a carrier-capable ground-attack aircraft developed for the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps. Skyhawks were the U.S. Navy's primary light bomber used over North Vietnam during the early years of the Vietnam War; they carried out some of the first air strikes by the US during the conflict, and a Marine Skyhawk is believed to have dropped the last American bombs on the country. From 1956 on, Navy Skyhawks were the first aircraft to be deployed outside of the US, and they continued to be used until late 1970. Fifty years after the aircraft's first flight, some still remain in service, including with the Brazilian Navy's aircraft carrier, Sao Paulo.

This specific A-4 model features the paint scheme of the Blue Angels, the United States Navy's flight demonstration squadron. It was formed in 1946, making it the second oldest formal flying aerobatic team (flying under the same name) in the world. Since 1946, the Blue Angels have flown for more than 260 million spectators.

This handcrafted model is painstakingly built from Philippine mahogany by our skilled craftsmen with a wealth of detail and makes a great gift for any veteran, aviation enthusiast or history buff.
