Master your GPS system easily, quickly and safely with
a VFLITE Computer-Based Training program!

Watch, Listen, Follow, Do. Studies suggest that those who learn by simulation are able to retain 75% of the information taught, compared with a 5% retention rate from just listening and 10% from reading a manual. Video-based training is a start, but VFLITE Interactive Guides increase learning and lets you put your knowledge to practical use.

Each VFLITE program allows you learn at your own pace, while practicing procedures with the comfort and safety of using a computer, rather than flying heads-down.

Each program incorporates the award-winning VFLITE learning system that easily and quickly gets users familiar with GPS operations by using a visual, hands-on approach.

Interactive Guides are available for:

  • Garmin GPSMAP 496
  • Garmin GPSMAP 396
  • Garmin GPSMAP 296
  • Garmin GPSMAP 196
  • Garmin GNS 530/430
  • Garmin GNS 530/430 Advanced Training Series: Volume 1
  • Lowrance Airmap 2000c
  • Lowrance Airmap 500/1000

Demos are available for each Interactive Guide.

The VFLITE Interactive Guides are standalone executable programs distributed on CD-ROM with minimal system requirements:

  • MS Windows 98 or later
  • Macintosh System 8.1 or later
  • 266 MHz processor
  • 128MB of RAM
  • 800 x 600 screen resolution
  • CD-ROM Drive
  • Sound Card

VFLITE Interactive Guides are advanced, extensive computer-based learning programs that provide information on almost all operational aspects of the latest GPS units from Garmin and Lowrance. In each edition, a realistic built-in emulator is a key part of the program, allowing users to learn procedures in a linear, scenario-based environment, with extensive animated sequences that match the actual GPS screens.

The emulator supports a three-step learning methodology. First -- an animated, narrated sequence demonstrates the selected task. Next -- the user practices the operation just demonstrated, the training assisted with textual, on-screen 'pop-up' prompts, that guide them through the task. Finally -- the user repeats the task alone (without the pop-up help), to reinforce procedures and instill confidence.

If you've logged some time with the latest GPS units, and you're like most pilots, you first probably spent some time reviewing the manual. Then you sat in the cockpit pushing the keys and twisting the knobs to see what they would do (and ran the aircraft battery down).

Maybe you used a GPS simulator (which saved the battery but fell short of real instruction). But when you took off to get some airborne experience with the unit, you were quickly reminded that flying is where you apply the skills you learned on the ground-not the other way around. If you were really lucky, you may have worked with one of the very few flight instructors who are well versed with the latest and greatest.

Perhaps some time has passed since you last used your GPS and you have become 'rusty' on important tasks, such as how to modify a flight plan or select an approach transition.

GPS skills are 'highly perishable.' Most GPS owners know that the box has powerful functions they aren't using (such as Distance Measurement or the +Map feature on the 430 or the street mapping and routing functionality in the 196, 500 and 1000) because they haven't had time to learn how to access them. VFLITE can help.

In each VFLITE Version you will access hands-on visual-based PC-learning focused exclusively on your GPS model with powerful eLearning features:

  • Powerful GPS emulators
  • Hands-on, visual learning system
  • Extensive demonstration movies with helpful narration
  • On-Screen textual 'Pop-Up' prompts to help user complete steps
  • Intuitive, logical interface that makes program navigation easy
  • Actual GPS screen captures for emulation
  • Vector-based graphics that produce crisp, scalable visuals
  • Wide range of program controls
  • Manufacturer developed simulators included (Windows)
  • Simulator Exercises
  • Progress Tracking
  • IntroFlite (a virtual orientation flight.)

Navigating through the guide is simple, as the content is grouped in typical, progressive flight sequence.

The VFLITE Learning Methodology is as easy as one, two, three. The Guide uses a proven three-step process that enables users to become proficient operators of their GPS units.

The first step is the 'Demo Mode', during which the user becomes familiar with the selected topic by viewing a narrated digital movie that demonstrates, step-by-step, the actions required to complete the chosen operation.

Next, the 'Training Mode' lets the user practice the actions just shown in the Demo Mode by interacting with the virtual Garmin device. Helpful on-screen 'pop-up' text prompts guide the user through the learning process during this mode.

During the final step, the 'Solo Mode', the user's skills are assessed and reinforced as they repeat the operation again, only without the on-screen text prompts (which can be turned back on if users get 'stuck').

Users can move between Modes by clicking on any of the three tabs seen here, at any time. A counter informs which step they're on and how many steps there are in the selected mode.
