A must have for any pilot who flies
when the conditions are right for icing!

ICE ADVICE provides the pilot with a handy reference for avoiding, detecting and escaping icing conditions... one of the top concerns of general aviation pilots. The front side has easy steps to follow for the pre-flight phase during which the pilot will gather information on en route icing potentials, plan his/her route to avoid risky courses and/or altitudes, plan an escape route with appropriate performance and fuel margins and, finally, prepare the plane for departure.

This side also has a table to help the pilot determine and mitigate icing risks for various cloud types and temperatures. By monitoring temperature and cloud types en route, it is possible for the pilot to periodically assess his/her relative risk using this table.

The back side covers the en route phase and has advice on how to protect the aircraft from icing using the aircraft's onboard equipment. This side also includes advice on how to detect ice accretion and its effect on controls and how to escape icing conditions and cope with the performance effects. In particular, there is a table that helps the pilot recognize and respond to an ice-caused wing stall versus a tail stall. There is a big difference and knowing it will help ensure a successful recovery.

The last chart on this side will assist the pilot in estimating the temperature change for a given altitude change. The table employs two different lapse rates to account for the portions of the altitude change that are expected to occur in clear air versus clouds. This chart, when employed with the icing risk chart on the front side, can help the pilot decide an altitude change that will lower the icing risk.

Laminated 10 mil, satin matte finish.
