PIPER's GOLDEN AGE includes the particulars of the original Taylor Brothers Aircraft Corporation, Rochester, New York, in the late 1920s, of C.G. Taylor (the father of the lightplane) and his brother, Gordon Taylor, and the untimely death of Gordon while demonstrating one of the Taylor planes. Book details the move of the Taylor Brothers Aircraft Corporation to Bradford, Pennsylvania, and includes information of how William T. Piper and C.G. Taylor got together, the bankruptcy of the company during the Depression, and the ultimate breakup and split of Taylor and Piper. Book details the devastating fire that destroyed the Taylor plant in Bradford, and how Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, was able to get the company to move there in early 1937. During the reorganization of the company after the move to Lock Haven the company's name was changed to Piper Aircraft Corporation in late 1937. This book includes the many different Taylor and Piper models built during the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s, including the World War II years and the postwar boom/bust. Emphasis is given to the Taylor Chummy, Taylor E-2 Cub, Taylor/Piper J-2 Cub, Piper J-3 Cub, Piper J-4 Cub Coupe, Piper J-5 Cruiser, the Grasshoppers (military observation & liaison airplanes), Piper TG-8 Training Glider, Piper Experimentals, Piper PA-12 Super Cruiser, Piper PA-11 Cub Special, Piper PA-14 Family Cruiser, Piper PA-15 Vagabond, Piper PA-16 Clipper, and Piper PA-18 Super Cub.
100 pages, 8.5" x 11", SB, detailed text, 130 photos including factory photos, 11 pages of beautiful, internationally acclaimed 3-view drawings of various Piper models by Paul Matt.
