Aviation Weather Services (Advisory Circular 00-45E) explains weather service in general as well as the interpretation and use of coded weather reports, forecasts, and observed and prognostic weather charts. The TAF/METAR information is updated to reflect current procedures consistent with all the changes detailed in the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM). Both student and experienced pilots will find the new and updated information useful and applicable to all their flight activities.
There are chapters dedicated to the aviation weather service program, aviation routine weather reports (METAR), pilot and radar reports, satellite pictures and radiosonde data (RADAT), aviation weather forecasts, weather prediction charts, radar summary charts, constant pressure analysis charts, composite moisture stability charts, wind and temperatures aloft charts, significant weather prognostic charts, convective outlook charts, and volcanic ash advisory center products. The book concludes with many charts and tables that apply directly to flight planning and inflight decisions, including turbulence locations, conversion and density altitude tables, contractions and acronyms, and national weather service addresses.
